Legendary cricketer Adam Gilchrist has raised concern over Australia opener David Warner’s lack of runs and confidence ahead of the side’s first match in the International T20 Cup against South Africa on Saturday (October 23).  Warner scored 0 and one run against New Zealand and India in warm-up games. He is also coming off from a horrendous season in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) as he scored just 195 runs from the eight completed games.

The southpaw was stripped of the captaincy and was also not part of the playing XI for the team UAE leg of the league. Later, he posted a post on an official Instagram account signaling an end with the franchise. Although all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has put his weight around Warner, Gilchrist feels Warner’s state of mind is not ideal.

"I know there's a bit of uncertainty around him (Warner) and his results, but he hasn't played any cricket. A lot of them haven't played much cricket. We can't really judge how Dave is going on the back of a disgruntled situation with his franchise," Gilchrist told SEN's Whateley on Wednesday.

The former wicketkeeper batter has included Warner in his playing XI against South Africa. Apart from the senior statesmen, he has also included Aaron Finch, Mitch Marsh, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis (wicketkeeper), Marcus Stoinis, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Adam Zampa.

Gilchrist also feels that all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will have a huge impact during the global event. The 30-year-old was seen in good form against the five-match T20I series against West Indies."I think he can have a big impact there, just going in earlier and getting the ball while it's harder."

The cricketer-turned-expert also feels Josh Inglis should in the team due to his good performance in the T20 leagues in Australia and England.
