Pakistan are currently busy playing the second match of the ongoing home Test series against the Kiwis. However, they failed to win the series opener after Engaldn whitewashed them in the last home Test series. So, the Pakistan Cricket Board sacked Ramiz Raja from the Chairman's post.
Then, the PCB appointed Najam Sethi as the new Chairman. However, during Ramiz Raja’s tenure, Pakistan managed some mixed results. But, one of the notable moments was when Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis left their respective coaching roles during his tenure just before the 2021 20-20 World Cup.
“As a chairman, it was my right to dismiss them.” - Ramiz Raja
During an interview with Samaa TV, Ramiz Raja said that as the Chairman, he had the right to dismiss them. He said: “They received their full payments for two years. They were given full respect. As a chairman, it was my right to dismiss them. Even now, they are talking about removing Saqlain Mushtaq and replacing him with Mickey Arthur. I made contracts in such a way that I didn't want the board to be left with a coaching setup for three years.”
"We had yearly contracts. They (Misbah and Waqar) would've left in January/February anyway. We brought new management. It wasn't easy for me. I've played with Waqar, I talked to him in detail. The CEO talked to Misbah. It obviously didn't look good that the change took place within a week or 10 days before the T20 World Cup. But I had an idea that we could only go to a certain extent with them. When I used to do commentary, I realised that a change was necessary,” the former PCB Chairman added.
During Ramiz Raja’s tenure, Pakistan managed to defeat India for the first time in a World Cup game in the 2021 20-20 World Cup. After that, the Men in Green again defeated the Men in Blue in the Asia Cup 2022. But, they also failed to win a single match in seven Tests at home in 2022. So, fans were not happy with such a performance from the team.
