Ricky Ponting felt that the 2020 Border-Gavaskar Trophy loss to India will hurt for a long time. In fact, Ponting stated that this loss will hurt even more than the loss incurred 2 years ago. Australia was at full strength, while India were without most of their best players in the series. India is now the only Asian team to win a Test series down under. Not only that, but India is also the only team to achieve this feat twice.

Ricky Ponting stated that even a draw could not have done well for the Australian side. Ponting was nothing but praises for the Indian side. He felt that the Indian side was quite exceptional considering their injury woes. As for Australia, Ponting felt that the Australian side was too sloppy and they eventually paid the price.

India won the 2020 Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1. However, several cricketing pundits felt that the result would be different if Australia’s best batsmen David Warner and Steve Smith were available.

Ponting predicted a whitewash for India after the 1st Test of the 2020 Border Gavaskar Trophy

After Australia battered India in the 1st Test, Ponting felt that India would not be able to make a comeback. However, it was not to happen that way. Instead, India created history by defeating Australia at the Gabba. This was ironic because of the fact that the Australians had not lost a single Test at that venue in 32 years. India needed 328 in 100 overs to win the 4th Test. If that would not happen, the Test series would result in a draw.

Shubman Gill gave India the ideal start. The newbie smacked 91 runs in just 146 balls to give India a commanding start. Cheteshwar Pujara also played an instrumental inning of 56 to keep ticking the board for the Indian side. Rishabh Pant stole the show on the last day of the 4th Test. In 138 balls, the Delhi southpaw smacked an impressive 89 runs. Eventually, India required just 3 runs from 20 balls. Pant sealed the deal with a boundary as India went on to do the unthinkable. A hearty congratulations to the deserved winners of the Test series!
