Michael Vaughan believes that managing Russell will be an arduous task for skipper Eoin Morgan and head coach Brendon McCullum. The Caribbean all-rounder has not looked in the best of touch in the ongoing 14th IPL season. As a result, the Kolkata Knight Riders have blown hot and cold in the season, winning one out of the three matches so far.
Michael Vaughan's words came after Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated KKR by 38 runs. Eoin Morgan-led team acquired 44 runs in the last two overs against RCB. Andre Russell, who was on strike, tried to hit Mohammed Siraj for boundaries and also denied taking any single. However, the 32-year-old could only manage a single run off the last ball.
Managing Andre Russell is a tricky job: Michael Vaughan
During a discussion on Cricbuzz, veteran English cricketer Michael Vaughan said that managing Andre Russell is a difficult job. The 46-year-old reckoned that the Jamaican-born all-rounder seems to be struggling every time he is out on the field. Vaughan also pointed out that skipper Eoin Morgan and Brendon McCullum will have to figure out something for Andre Russell.
Talking about the match against RCB, Virat Kohli and Co. ended their Chennai leg of IPL 2021 with a hat-trick of victories. They defeated Kolkata Knight Riders on the back of explosive fifties from Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers. Glenn Maxwell scored a 49-ball 78. The Australian batsman is just ten runs behind Orange Cap holder Shikhar Dhawan (186 runs). This was his second half-century of the season. On the other end, Proteas batsman AB de Villiers clubbed an unbeaten 34-ball 76. The duo smashed 18 fours and 6 sixes altogether to take the Royal Challengers Bangalore to 204 for 4. Earlier in the innings, Kolkata got off to a great start. Mystery Spinner Varun Chakravarthy got the wickets of RCB captain Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar in his first over. Apart from Varun Chakravarthy, pacers Krishna and Cummins took one wicket each. Andre Russell became the most expensive bowler considering an economy rate of 19 in death overs.
Royal Challengers Bangalore have so far won all the three matches they played in IPL 2021. The Bangalore based franchise currently holds the top spot in the points table with 6 points. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders are now placed sixth with only one win from three matches. KKR will next play against three-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings on April 21 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
