The Women’s 20-20 World Cup is just days away and the teams are bracing for the multinational tournament, with the Indians in full confidence after the U-19 World Cup win which changed the fortunes of women’s cricket. With the Women’s T20 League just a month away, the Indian women’s cricket team is witnessing changes unfold right in front of their eyes.

That being said, Bangladesh women’s cricket team star pacer Jahanara Alam opened up on the Indian women and claimed that they would be one of the toughest teams to face in the upcoming multinational tournament. Notably, the Indian team are no longer a soft team as they have worked upon their intent and their aggressive style of play.

Further, Alam opened up on the pitches and claimed that most of the surfaces in the Cricket’s governing body tournaments are batters friendly. She expressed her displeasure over pitches favouring batters alone, although she was happy to admit her opinion of not wanting to expect bowler-friendly pitches.

India undoubtedly is a strong team: Jahanara Alam

It remains to be seen if the Bangladesh women’s cricket team would be up on their feet in the showpiece event, given their first outing would be against Sri Lanka women on February 12. As far as India are concerned, they would face Pakistan women’s cricket team on the same day at the Newlands international cricket stadium.

“India undoubtedly is a strong team. So, from that aspect, it won’t be fair to take two names. India have some big names in their teams. Shafali Verma is full of confidence after winning the World Cup. Renuka Thakur bowls brilliantly among young stars. And if I look at the seniors, Harmanpreet and Smriti Mandhana are in brilliant form throughout. They are game-changers. I don’t think it will be fair for me to take one or two names,” Alam was quoted as saying.

“In most Cricket’s governing body events, the pitches are mostly batting-friendly. And since it’s a T20 World Cup, runs will play a big factor. I am not expecting bowling-friendly pitches. Even before the event in Australia, I heard that pitches would help fast bowlers. But we didn’t get it and the tracks helped batters,” she added.
