Indian selectors snubbed Yuzvendra Chahal from the T20 World Cup squad and went in with the experienced duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja along with IPL stars Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy. Chahal was going through a lean patch in the last few months and was dropped from the India squad. He had an opportunity to make a case for himself on the Sri Lanka tour but he didn’t deliver any impactful performances. However, many felt that Chahal is a match-winner and should have been in the India squad, especially considering the conditions of the UAE.

Having being left out of the India squad, Chahal had a point to prove and what a statement he made in the second leg of IPL. The leg-spinner has emerged as the trump card for Virat Kohli’s RCB and has scalped 10 wickets in the five games in UAE so far. Given his form, many have urged the Indian selectors to consider Chahal for the T20 World Cup squad. The teams can make changes to their squad for the T20 World Cup till October 10.

However, former India cricketer Saba Karim feels that Chahal can only get into the India squad if a player is ruled out of injury. He added that other players are performing well and selectors won’t be keen to snub them to give Chahal a chance.

“I think it’s too late now. People have been talking about making changes in the squad, but that can only happen if someone gets injured. You also have to see Rahul Chahar was performing very well when he got selected. We saw both of them (Chahal and Chahar) in Sri Lanka, and his performances there were definitely noteworthy, which is why he was picked by selectors,” Saba Karim said while speaking on the Khelneeti podcast on Youtube.

“Now, in the second half of the IPL, Chahal has shown great improvement in his performances, which is very good. But he will have to wait for a little. The players who have been selected, their form and performances will be seen before Chahal is given a chance again,” he added.
