However, the Men in Blue suffered an ODI series loss recently in Bangladesh by a margin of 2-1. Now, in order to get qualified for the final of the World Test Championship, this series is a crucial one for India.

On the other hand, skipper Rohit Sharma got injured in the second ODI and thus, he missed both the third ODI and the first Test match. Therefore, KL Rahul became the captain while Cheteshwar Pujara was the deputy. Speaking of the match, KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bat first.

Shreyas Iyer scored 82* runs on the first day of the first Test against Bangladesh

For India, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill came out to open the innings. Then, KL Rahul got out after scoring 22 runs off 54 balls, including three fours. Shubman Gill also got out after scoring 20 runs off 40 balls, including three balls. After that, Virat Kohli also failed to score big as he got out for just one run off five balls. They were in a spot of trouble as all three wickets were gone on just 48 runs. Then, Rishabh Pant scored 46 runs off 45 balls, including six fours and two sixes. After that, Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer put up a solid partnership of 149 runs.

Pujara scored a vital 90 runs off 203 balls, including 11 fours. But, Iyer continued his batting as he finished day one after scoring 82* runs off 169 balls, including 10 fours. His inning was crucial as India scored 278 runs for six wickets in 90 overs. On the last delivery of the day, Axar Patel got out after scoring 14 runs off 26 balls.
