English Opener Jason Roy has been banned by England Cricket Board (ECB) for two matches. He has also been imposed with a fine of 2500 pounds. Roy's suspension is for the next two England matches, however, his suspension can be extended to 12 months if there is no improvement in his behaviour.
The England and Wales Cricket Board announced the punishments in a statement but did not explain why the punishment and fines were imposed.
"A disciplinary panel of the Cricket Discipline Commission has announced its sanction on Jason Roy after he admitted a charge of conducting himself in a manner which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the game of cricket, the ECB and himself into disrepute, in breach of ECB Directive 3.3." said the statement.
The 31-year-old is a white-ball specialist who averages 40.19 in 98 One-Day Internationals (ODIs). Roy last played for England in the T20I series against the West Indies in January. He is likely to be picked for the ODI series against the Netherlands in June.
Meanwhile, Roy was picked to play for the Gujarat team in the Indian T20 League. However, he decided to pull out of the tournament citing bio-bubble fatigue. While announcing his decision, he said that he wants to spend more time with his family and also prepare for his international duties in the coming time.
Many pundits of the game criticized him for making this decision at the last moment. They were of the opinion that he knew well in advance of the situation and should have not registered for the mega auction. The team got Afghanistan's Rahmanullah Gurbaz as his replacement for the season.
