Opening batter Jason Roy will be handling the responsibilities of leading the Oval Invincibles side in their next game against Northern Superchargers. Apparently, the team is missing the services of their regular skipper Sam Billings, who is leading the England Lions team in the ongoing tour against the South Africans. Also, the team is missing the services of Will Jacks, who could have been the captaincy candidate in the absence of Billings.
In this scenario, Roy has been trusted to lead the team in the game to be played on August 11 at The Oval. Meanwhile, after being appointed as the captain, the 2019 World Cup winner said that he is delighted to lead the team and is relishing the extra responsibility. He added that even though he is leading the team for one game, it is an honour for him.
“I was delighted to be asked to captain the guys and am relishing the extra responsibility. Although it’s only for one game, it’s an honour to lead the team,” said Jason Roy.
On the other hand, the Invincibles released a statement confirming that the right-hander will lead the team on Thursday.
“Jason Roy will captain Oval Invincibles men in their match against Northern Superchargers at the Kia Oval on Thursday (3 pm start). He will stand in for Sam Billings who – alongside teammate Will Jacks – is playing for England Lions in their ongoing four-day match against South Africa at Canterbury,” read a club statement.
