With a lot of batting firepower in the England Cricket Team, it has become a battle within teammates to start in the playing XI. With such depth, Jason Roy believes that every player is fighting tooth and nail to secure a spot in the XI. Roy knows that the only way to start is by smashing runs on the board. With so much pressure on each player, Roys says it brings out the best of every player. Every player in the squad needs to be physically and mentally fit. The selectors have pushed the player’s limits as well. However, Roy believes that this will eventually contribute to the success of the team in the future.

England is currently 3rd in the World Test Championship qualification stage. With India and Australia the likely teams to qualify, England needs to buckle up. England can still, however, make it to the finals. They currently have 60.88% of the total achievable points. They have two test series away from home in Asia against Sri Lanka and India. Beating India at home is a feat in itself. Hence, England might look to target Sri Lanka and earn as many points as they can. However, even if this happens, they need India or Australia or both to drop points. With New Zealand just behind, it will be quite an accomplishment if England manages to make it to the finals. The finals are set to be held in June 2021 at Lord’s.

Concerns regarding the bio-bubble led me to withdraw from IPL 2020: Roy

England boasts plenty of batting options with the likes of Butler, Bairstow, Ben Stokes, and Jason Roy in the squad. Amongst all of these players, only Jason Roy was absent from the IPL. This happened because Roy was not confident about the safety of the bio-bubble in the UAE. Roy was a part of the finalists Delhi Capitals.

Roy, overall, has had a difficult 2020 to endure. In this year, Roy played only 8 ODI matches in total, hitting a meager 102 runs. Roy also played only 3 T20Is for England this year. He scored a total of 117 runs. He eventually revived it in the T20 Vitality Blast. The England opener will now look to start in the upcoming series against South Africa.
