Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has now achieved a rare feat, making his debut in Test matches at his home soil. In a short period, Jasprit Bumrah has developed as one of the top pacers in the world of cricket. Bumrah has played a crucial role in the team’s performances away from home in the last few years. In 2018, Bumrah made his Test debut in the Test series against South Africa. Since then, the seamer has played 17 Tests in South Africa, England, West Indies, New Zealand, and Australia. In those 17 matches, he has picked up 79 wickets at an average of 21.59.

The opening Test against England at Chennai is Bumrah's first Test match on home ground. Bumrah is the cricketer with most away Test matches played before playing at home. Javagal Srinath comes second in the list. Srinath played 12 matches before having the ooportunity to play a Test on home soil.

Bumrah leads the list of most Test wickets before making his home debut

Jasprit Bumrah also holds a record of scalping most Test wickets (79) before playing his first game at home. West Indies spinner Alf Valentine picked 65 wickets before making his home debut. 

Bumrah was ruled out of the fourth and final Test against Australia due to injury. The pacer has returned to the squad and the fans are excited to see him finally making his Test debut in India.

For the first Test encounter against England, Team India decided to go with two pacers (Jasprit Bumrah and Ishant Sharma), and three spinners (R Ashwin, Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Nadeem), as the pitch in Chennai suits the spinners more. Despite many speculations going around, Kuldeep Yadav has not been included in the playing XI.
