Navdeep Saini is now India's 299th Test player. The seamer was bestowed his test debut cap by senior pace bowling mate Bumrah. To memorialize the moment, Bumrah gave a short but classy speech. Other members of the team also embraced Saini for his achievement.

Navdeep Saini has come in as a replacement of injured Umesh Yadav. The 28-year-old pacer beat Shardul Thakur and T Natarajan for the spot in the playing XI.

Navdeep Saini's first-class stats and records

The 28-year-old has travelled with India's Test squad for the last couple of years. Saini has raised from the grades of first-class cricket, India 'A' matches, and the Indian Premier League.

Hailing from Karnal, the bowler is the leading pace attack of Delhi in the Ranji Trophy. In the 2017-18 domestic season, he grabbed 34 wickets to reach the Ranji Trophy final. In that domestic season, he relied more on his swing and accuracy to make it difficult for the batsmen.

However, he later sharpened his skills meticulously and added a few yards to his pace. In general, the lanky pacer has picked up 128 first-class wickets from 46 matches at a decent average of 28.46. Saini also has four five-wicket hauls to his name.

In the third test, Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj opened the bowling on Day 1 at Sydney. Siraj managed to pick up the prized wicket of David Warner. With this, the bowlers troubled debutant Will Pucovski with short balls. Navdeep Saini is going to bowl as the first change. His discipline in the crease will be instrumental for the Indian team.

After recovering from a hamstring injury, which kept him out of the first two Tests, Rohit Sharma is back in the squad.

The visitors will now aim to take the lead in the four-match Test series for the first time. Rohit Sharma will replace the struggling opener, Mayank Agarwal. Australia has won the toss at the Sydney Cricket Ground and decided to bat first. Will Pucovski has also made his Test debuts today.
