Joe Root to lead the Test side against India

Burns also mentioned that he and his other teammates are going to follow the example of their captain, Joe Root. Root is in fantastic form after the two-match test series against Sri Lanka. The batsman also slammed a double-century in the first Test of the recently concluded series. The 30-year-old then followed it up with another big hundred in the second Test. His sensational performances helped the visitors whitewash Sri Lanka 2-0 in their home ground.

Rory Burns was not a part of the England squad for the Sri Lanka series, but the batsman is going to open the innings against India. The first Test between England and India kicks off on February 5 in Chennai. Both the top-notch countries are prepared to lock horns in four Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is. The first two matches of the 4-game series are going to take place in Chennai. Post that both the sides head to Ahmedabad for the remaining games.

Burns further mentioned that Dom Bess and Jack Leach's spin duo should just be focusing on performing the best of their abilities. The opener also added that India's pitches are going to be a little pace friendly considering India's bowling line-up for the upcoming matches.

England's entire contingent has reached Chennai on Wednesday, and all the players and squad members are undergoing mandatory quarantine. A three-day practice is all the visitors would get after a five-day hard quarantine period.  Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, and Rory Burns arrived earlier than the other players as they did not play the Test series against Sri Lanka.
