Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah is not expected to feature in the One Day International series against England. Bumrah was released from the team ahead of the fourth Test due to personal reasons. He is going to finish the series with four wickets from 48 overs bowled across two Test matches. The pacer was also out of the second Test in Chennai as part of the team's workload management.
The ODI series is going to be played in a bio-secure environment in Pune, starting March 23. Bumrah's unavailability from the entire white-ball series against England will allow the Indian team to rope in new players. The reason behind resting Jasprit Bumrah for the white ball leg is simple. The five T20 Internationals and three ODIs against England will be the final attempt for Indian team management to look at all potential cricketers going into this year's T20 World Cup.
Varun Chakravarthy failed the new fitness benchmark set by the BCCI
The Indian team management has not yet demanded Bumrah's replacement for the fourth Test against England. Mohammed Siraj is most likely to replace him in the playing XI in the final Test at the Motera. Umesh Yadav, who has also been included in the squad after passing the fitness test, is another option.
Meanwhile, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarty has failed the fitness Test conducted at the National Cricket Academy. The 29-year-old was put through the Yo-Yo test and couldn't clock the required 17.1 marks. Varun was then sent to Mumbai to play practice matches after having spent three months at the NCA.
With just ten days left to go for the T20I series, Varun can be asked to show up for one more Test. However, it will be very challenging for him as it takes more time to improve Yo-Yo test results. The mystery spinner was earlier included in the Indian T20I squad for the Australia series, which he had to miss due to an injury. If he again fails to make the cut in this series, he will miss out on India's potential debut twice in five months.
