Senior pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will not take part in the Asia Cup 20- 20 tournament with a back injury, which would require some time to heal. The Indian squad for the tournament in the Middle East was selected on Monday. However, the official announcement of the team happened on that day.
Bumrah last played in the ODI away series against England before being rested from the rubber against West Indies and the upcoming one against Zimbabwe. "Jasprit Bumrah has a back injury and will not play in the Asia Cup. He is our main bowler and we would like him to be back in action before T20 World Cup. We can't risk him in Asia Cup and the injury could aggravate," a senior BCCI official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

However, it is understood that the back issue will keep him out for some time and he will need to do rehabilitation work at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru before being declared fit for the short-format home series against Australia and South Africa in September-October.
Bumrah had had similar issues a few years ago. For that, he was out for a considerable amount of time. Bumrah's injury is a setback for the Indian team as he would need some matches to get into proper form after a long lay-off of more than two months. While Jasprit Bumrah is an automatic selection as and when he makes a comeback, the youngster, Avesh Khan, will find it tough to remain in the mix.
Someone like Mohammed Shami could be called in at short notice to bolster the fast bowling attack which looks wafer thin considering Bumrah is ruled out. The inclusion of Shami could give the much-needed experience and heft to the pace attack. If Shami comes in then Bhuvneshwar Kumar can breathe more easily. The News of Bumrah's injury is a worrying sign for the national side and it has come at the worst possible time. Bumrah's absence could be a big setback for the Men in Blue.
