On Friday, the sixteenth season of the Indian Premier League got down to business when the reigning champion Gujarat Titans travelled to Mumbai to play the Mumbai Indians in game 57. After a traditionally difficult start to the season, the Mumbai Indians have gathered momentum; they recently defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by a commanding score of six wickets. The Gujarat Titans, who have won two straight games, are the team with the "Golden Touch" now.

After winning the toss, Hardik Pandya decided to bowl first for the visitors. However, the home team took advantage of being allowed to bat first by scoring a whopping 218/5. Suryakumar Yadav (103 off 49) smashed a six on the final ball to reach his first IPL century. He decorated his innings with 11 boundaries and six maximums, becoming the third Indian, after Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma, to ever score an IPL century for MI.

Rashid Khan's quickfire 79 off 32 went in vain

For Gujarat Titans, Rashid Khan returned with a four-wicket haul for the defending champions simultaneously. He was Titan's first choice of bowler, thanks to his superb 4/30 in four overs. The last MI wicket to be taken was by Mohit Sharma.

In reply, the visitors got off to a shaky start, with the top-order collapsing. Wriddhiman Saha, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya returned to the pavilion for single-digit scores. With 29 off 14, Vijay Shankar tried to inject some pace, but Piyush Chawla cleaned him up. David Miller added 41 off 26 while Rashid Khan added 79 off 32 to take Gujarat Titans closer to the target, but MI managed to dish out a win by 27 runs. For MI, impact player Akash Madhwal remained the 3/31. Piyush Chawla and Kumar Kartikeya bagged two, while Jason Behrendorff returned with one wicket.

The spectators will then be treated to a doubleheader on Saturday in the sixteenth season of the Indian Premier League, with the Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on the Lucknow Super Giants at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad, in the opening match of the day. Delhi Capitals will play Punjab Kings in the second match at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium.
