Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir recently made headlines for making an obscene gesture at the crowd during an Asia Cup 2023 match. Gambhir is in the midst of a controversy after a video of him showing the middle finger to fans during the match between India and Nepal at Pallekele International Stadium on Monday, September 4 went viral on social media.

In the video, a group of fans can be heard chanting 'Kohli, Kohli', and an enraged Gambhir hit back at former India captain Virat Kohli's fans with an indecent gesture. Needless to say, Kohli and Gambhir have not shared a good bond over the years and their animosity has come to a head in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Since then, Gambhir's ears have not been free with chants of 'Kohli, Kohli' and this time he has not spared those fans.

Gambhir, a cricketer turned politician, was slammed by fans on social media for losing his temper. However, finding himself in the middle of the controversy, the former India opener broke his silence on the matter as he told news agency ANI that some Pakistani fans shouted anti-India slogans when he was leaving the field.

"What is shown on social media has no truth in it because people show whatever they want to show. There were 2-3 Pakistanis there who were speaking anti-India things and things on Kashmir. So, it was my natural reaction. I can't hear anything against my country. So, that was my reaction," Gambhir said.

The 2011 World Cup winner later took to his X (formerly known as Twitter) handle to assert that what spreading on social media was false and that any Indian would react the way he did when hearing such anti-India slogans.

“A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes. Not everything is as it seems. Any Indian would react how I did to the kind of slogans used against our nation. I love our players & I love my country," the 41-year-old tweeted.
