Star Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is all set to become the 11th captain of Team India in men’s T20Is. He will be leading the Men Blue in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland, starting on 18 August, Friday, with the first T20I at Malahide Cricket Stadium in Dublin. Notably, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya was the 10th Indian captain in the men’s T20I after he began to lead the team in 2022. Prior to him, it was star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant who led the side in a bilateral series against South Africa at home in June 2022.

The first skipper of India in the men’s T20I was none other than the former blistering batter Virender Sehwag who led the Men in Blue in the only T20I against South Africa almost 17 years back in the year 2006. After Sehwag, former legendary skipper MS Dhoni was appointed to fulfil this duty in the T20 World Cup 2007. He famously guided the team to a historic title win in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup 16 years back.

Ruturaj Gaikwad to lead India in the Asian Games 2023

After that, Dhoni led India in 6 editions of the T20 World Cup from 2007 to 2016. In these editions, India finished as runner-up in 2014 after losing to Sri Lanka in the final and got knocked out in the semifinal of 2016 after losing to West Indies.

Coming back to Jasprit Bumrah, he has started full-fledged practice ahead of the Ireland T20Is and the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The 29-year-old star pacer is making his comeback in the international circuit after a long injury break due to the back injury that he sustained last year in September 2022. Apart from this, emerging batter Ruturaj Gaikwad is also set to lead Team India in the men's T20Is of the upcoming Asian Games 2023. With that said, he will be the 12th player to lead India in the shortest format of the game.
