Joe Root can break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 15000 runs in Test: Geoffrey Boycott

Similarly, retired cricketer Geoffrey Boycott feels that the prolific English skipper has all the talent and abilities to surpass the record of Indian great Sachin Tendulkar in the most extended format of the game. He also opines that he can break Sachin's record of being the highest run-getter in the future. Boycott further mentioned that Root is only 30-year-old and has featured in only 99 Tests. In those 99 games, the batsman has gathered 8249 runs in his bag. If he continues with the same pace, he won't have any difficulties breaking Tendulkar's record of 15000 plus runs.

Additionally, the legendary English batsman highlighted that he would only compare Root with the same generation players like Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson, who all are excellent players. He also believes that the England skipper has done a lot of hard work on his batting during the lockdown. Thus, a player like him should be compared to his contemporary only and not the past era's cricketers. Boycott also stated that every cricketer is a product of their respective environment. Joe Root currently has aggregated 8249 Test runs in 99 matches at an average of 49.1. He has smashed 49 fifties and 19 centuries till date.
