England Test captain Joe Root has surpassed Virat Kohli to become the highest-paid captain in the year 2020/21. Virat Kohli is one of the highest-paid players in the world of cricket. He was also the only Indian in Forbes' rich list of top 100 athletes in the year 2020. Virat Kohli, the face of Indian cricket, has acquired the 66th position with reported earnings of nearly 196 crores. The 32-year-old is one of the players with a Grade A+ contract and received an annual salary of Rs 7 crore.

Kohli also has a Rs 17 crore contract with IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He has been representing RCB since the maiden IPL season 2008. Kohli was also retained by the franchise for Rs 17 crore ahead of IPL 2018 mega-action. Even though Virat Kohli is the highest-paid cricketer in world cricket at the moment, he is not the highest-paid captain and player if we only consider his salary as an international cricketer. The English cricketers representing the country in the most extended format of the game reportedly receive more money than India's Grade A+ players.

Jofra Archer earns more than Virat Kohli

According to The Cricketer.com, those with red-ball contracts receive an annual salary of around £700,000, which is Rs 7.22 crore approximately. Thus, the amount of Rs 7.22 crores makes England Test captain Joe Root the highest-paid skipper currently. The amount earned by Kohli and Root will differ if we add other incentives and rewards. Not just Joe Root but Jofra Archer is also among players with a red-ball contract. Hence, the Barbadian pacer draws more salary than the current Indian captain. Only Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah have Grade A+ contracts. They have a compensation of Rs 7 crore per year. The officials introduced the Grade A+ category in 2018. The players who represent India in all three formats are offered the Grade A+ contract.

The report in Thecricketer.com also indicates that England's white-ball players earn around £170,000, which is Rs 1.753 crore. As far as the Indian cricketers are concerned, those with Grade A contracts have a salary of Rs 5 crore whereas those in Grade B receive a compensation of Rs 3 crore. The players in the Grade C category are paid Rs 1 crore each year.
