England pacer Jofra Archer is set to return to India to play for Rajasthan Royals in the forthcoming IPL season. The earlier reports indicated that Archer would miss the entire season. However, the pacer now looks set to play in the latter part of the tournament.
Archer headed back home just before the ODI series against India due to an elbow injury. The 25-year-old featured in two Tests and all five T20Is in India. However, he was ruled out of the ODI series because of a problem with his right elbow, which deteriorated during the two-month tour. Earlier this week, on Monday, the all-rounder underwent a successful finger surgery to remove a piece of glass that was stuck in his finger.
Jofra Archer was named IPL 2020 Most Valuable Player
While there is no update on his elbow injury, it looks like the Rajasthan Royals all-rounder would be fit to play before the competition's vital phase gets started. According to ESPNcricinfo, he is anticipated to miss at least the first four games of the Royals' schedule. The 14th edition of the most awaited league starts on April 9. RR is going to play their first match of the season on April 12 in Mumbai against the Punjab Kings.
The report further stated that the team expects the star player to be out for at least the first four games. The Royals' will play their fourth match against RCB on April 22. As of now, Archer would begin two weeks of rehabilitation following the surgery. The ECB has also stated that the bowler would be reviewed by a consultant before returning to training. They also remarked that a further update on his elbow problem would be given once he resumes his bowling.
Archer's absence would be a massive blow for the Rajasthan based franchise. The maiden IPL winners would be hoping that he regains his fitness as soon as possible. The English cricketer has been an indispensable part of the Royals team since joining the franchise back in 2018. Archer was also adjudged the MVP of IPL 2020 after bagging 20 wickets. He had also smashed ten sixes while scoring 113 runs at a strike-rate of 179.36.
