In recent learnings, Jofra Archer has registered in the Indian T20 League 2022 mega auction, but will not be available to play in this season. Initially, he did not register for the auction due to a prolonged injury. He missed out on the last season of ITL, followed by 20-20 World Cup 2021, and the Ashes. Archer has not played any cricket in over 10 months.
The 26-year old has been suffering from a stress fracture in his right elbow. He underwent a second surgery in December last year and might not be able to play competitive cricket for the next few months as well. The BCCI informed his availability in the auction to the franchises after they shortlisted 590 players. Archer's base price will be 2 crores. As reported by Cricbuzz, the BCCI told franchises, "The ECB has registered Archer for the auction with a view to potential participation in 2023 and 2024, as due to his current injury it is unlikely that he can participate in IPL 2022."
44 players, including Jofra Archer, have been added to the list of previously selected players. Usman Khawaja, the Australian left-handed batter is another notable player added to the list. He was last seen in the Ashes and was playing well for his team. He has set a base price of 1.5 crores for himself. Archer is certainly a player who will be on the radar of many franchises and a bidding war for him is well on the cards. Meanwhile, the mega auction will be held in Bengaluru on 12th and 13th February.
