Indian skipper Virat Kohli is arguably one of the finest ODI batsmen of this decade. This is clearly backed by the fact that Virat is the highest-ranked ODI batsman as per the ICC rankings. In his ODI career, Kohli has amassed an outstanding 12040 runs in 251 matches. This includes a stellar 43 centuries and a superb batting average of 59.3.

One bowler who has got the better of Kohli in ODIs is Josh Hazlewood. The 29-year-old Australian bowler has dismissed Kohli in 4 consecutive ODIs. To dismiss Kohli once is achievable. However, to get Kohli’s wicket in 4 consecutive ODIs is a feat in itself. Hazlewood managed to dismiss Kohli in all the 3 ODIs in the recently held ODI series in Australia. Hazlewood is part of the Australian Test squad and will look to continue his superb record against Kohli in the 1st Test.

Even though he has got the better of Kohli, Hazlewood reckons that he does not have an advantage over Kohli in Test cricket. He states so because the Test format is completely different from the ODI format. Hazlewood also feels that it is not fair to draw any comparison between the 2 formats.

Kohli will only play the 1st Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which comprises 4 Tests in total. Prior to that, he will leave to attend the birth of his first child. Kohli was in fine form in the white ball series against Australia. He would want to replicate his performance in the 1st Test against Australia. In the Border-Gavaskar trophy, Kohli has amassed a total of 1604 runs at an average of 48.6. This includes a total of 7 hundred and 5 half-centuries as well.

Hopefully, we nullify Kohli’s effect in the 1st Test: Hazlewood

Hazlewood understands how crucial Virat Kohli is for the Indian team. Hazlewood feels that Kohli will pose the most threat among all the Indian batsmen against Australia. Therefore, Australia will look to dismiss Kohli early to swing the match in their favor. Furthermore, Hazlewood might also pose a threat to Kohli, given his superb record against Kohli in ODIs.

Kohli, on the other hand, will want to leave a mark before he departs for India. The 1st Test will be underway on 17th December. Both the teams will look to start the series on a high note by winning the 1st Test Match.
