With Australia having won the ODI series, they will now shift their main focus to the T20I and Test series. Australia outplayed India in the 2nd ODI, beating them by 51 wins to win the series 2-0. The T20I series is set to begin in 2 days, whereas the Test series is set to take the stage on 17 December. However, there is some bad news for Australia. It seems that their key batsman David Warner will be out for quite a while. Warner has been quite a sensation this year. In IPL 2020, Warner smashed 548 runs in just 16 matches.

This is the 5th season in which Warner managed to score 500+ runs. He has also been a lethal weapon for Australia. In the ODI series, Warner has scored a total of 152 runs in just 2 matches.

Australian coach Justin Langer is unsure at the moment whether David Warner will be fully fit for the upcoming Test series. The Australian opener injured his groin when fielding in the 2nd ODI in SCG. With this, Warner could be out of the remaining white-ball matches. He has been replaced by D’Arcy Short for the upcoming T20I series as well.

Unsure about Warner’s return: Justin Langer

Langer has stated that Warner has strained his abductor in his groins, which is quite painful. This was evident as Warner was seen mellowing in pain in the changing rooms thereafter. Langer is unsure whether Warner would be fully fit before the first test match. However, he believes that Warner is a fighter and will do anything to recover as soon as possible.

This now means that Langer won’t have to choose between Will Pucovski or Joe Burns eventually. Langer believes that selecting players is the toughest part of the job. With Australia A set to face India A, Langer might play both Pucovski and Burns against India A side.

Pucovksi, his first-class career, has scored 1720 runs in 22 test matches. He has also played 14 List A matches, in which he scored 264 runs. Burns, on the other hand, has played 21 Test matches in his entire career, scoring 1370 runs. However, he has played only 6 ODI games, scoring 146 runs in total. With the duo set to appear against India, it will be intriguing to see how they perform against Indian bowlers.
