The Women's World Cup 2022 game between India and South Africa was nothing short of thrilling drama. The game carried high stakes for the Indian team as they needed to win the game to qualify for the semis. They had six points in their kitty with three wins as many losses in six games. On the other hand, South Africa had already cemented their place in the top four.
Notably, the West Indies were also in contention, courtesy of the one point they got after a washout against the Proteas. They needed the Women in Green and Gold to beat India for them to reach the semis. Recently, cricket's governing body shared a video on their official Twitter of the final moments of the India vs South Africa game.
In the video, the West Indies team was closely watching the game while the commentators for the game were explaining their emotions during the final moments. At that time, Mignon du Preez from the Proteas plays a lofted drive towards long-on off Deepti Sharma. Harmanpreet Kaur at long-on took the catch and the Indian fans started celebrating. However, things changed dramatically when the third umpire found out that Sharma had overstepped.
This meant that her batting partner Shabnam Ismail had to face the free hit as the batters had crossed ahead of the dismissal. Ismail turned the strike over when the team needed two runs off as many balls. With one run needed on the last ball, Preez hit the winning runs. The West Indies team was seen celebrating the Proteas win as they qualified for the semis and India crashed out of the World Cup.
