In a recent piece of news, the Pakistan Cricket Team has faced visa delays in travelling to India for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. In the same line of events, they had to cancel their pre-World Cup team bonding trip to Dubai. Pakistan were scheduled to travel to the United Arab Emirates next week to stay there for a few days ahead of their flight to Hyderabad for the warm-up match against New Zealand.

“Pakistan are the only one - of nine sides travelling to India for the World Cup - still awaiting visas. The delay does highlight the complex and tense political backdrop against which the team is travelling to India. Travel between the two countries for citizens on either side is extremely limited because obtaining visas is an arduous and often fruitless process,” reads a report by ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, Pakistan also announced their squad for the 13th edition of the ODI World Cup just a day before on Friday, September 22. They were one of the teams who were yet to announce their squads for the tournament. Now, only Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are left to announce their squads for the marquee international tournament.

Pakistan announced their ODI World Cup 2023 squad amidst injury concerns

Speaking of the squad, the men in green faced a major blow as the star young pacer Naseem Shah couldn’t make his World Cup berth due to an injury. He has been replaced by the veteran pacer Hasan Ali. Apart from that, they have also included Mohammad Wasim Jr. as a fourth pacer in the squad.

The PCB chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq also spoke on the Pakistan squad for the ODI World Cup and he also discussed Naseem’s injury.

“Firstly, the way Naseem Shah got injured, he was our main bowler ,” said Inzamam while talking about the selection during a press conference.

“Secondly, there are a number of injury issues among fast bowlers. Like there was Hasnain, he’s had an injury and has been operated by doctors. Ihsanullah just had an elbow operation. Our options in fast bowling are depleted,” he added later.
