Kamlesh Nagarkoti
Unlike many young budding cricketers, Kamlesh Nagarkoti always wanted to become a fast bowler. He even had the ability to bowling at a rapid speed from his childhood days. With time, he has made enormous progress from age-group cricket to playing in the IPL. Nagarkoti is seen as one of the bright stars of the future of cricket.
Fast bowling was something that came naturally to him since his childhood. His fast bowling ability made it difficult for batsmen to negotiate the pace. Nagarkoti credited his childhood coach for his development. His coach guided him to focus on the line and length more than the pace. He grabbed whatever opportunity he was given to perform and adapted according to the changing demands of the game.
One of the highlights of his career was the 2018 U-19 World Cup win. The Indian team dominated the tournament and won the title with ease. The pacers played an important role in securing victory for the U-19 team in 2018.
Nagarkoti along with Shivam Mavi and Ishan Porel made it difficult for opposition batsmen to set themselves. He discussed how they used to plan on ways to get particular batsmen out in the tournament.
How Rahul Dravid impacted Kamlesh Nagarkoti?
Before becoming the Head of the NCA, Rahul Dravid coached the India A and U-19 team. He has done an excellent job of shaping up the future of Indian Cricket. Kamlesh Nagarkoti was one of his students who thrived under Dravid’s mentorship.
After the U-19 World Cup, Nagarkoti had a tremulous start to his competitive career. He was mostly out of the game due to his constant injuries. But Dravid’s words of wisdom had not let him lose hope and kept him motivated to wait for the right time.
He recalled that when he was disappointed, after getting injured in the IPL 2021, Dravid was there to support him. He guided Nagarkoti to understand that injuries are part of the game and it occurs to many athletes. It was important to stay motivated and come out of the situation stronger. Dravid’s support and guidance fired him up and made him improve as a bowler.
