Kamran Akmal feels that the Pakistan cricket team will have an advantage in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup. The mega event of the year is scheduled to take place in October-November. Akmal’s comments came after the tournament was shifted from India to the United Arab Emirates. According to Kamran Akmal, the Pakistan cricket team has been playing in the UAE for more than a decade. Thus, the team will ultimately be aware of the condition. After the Lahore attacks in 2009, international cricket was reduced in the country. Hence, UAE emerged as an alternative place for team Pakistan to play their home games.
Apart from this, the first few seasons of the Pakistan Super League were also played in the UAE. Also, the second part of the PSL 2021 was conducted in UAE.
Afghanistan could be a dangerous side in such conditions: Kamran Akmal
Enthrallingly, the Indian cricketers also have some experience of playing in the UAE. The 13th season of the IPL was entirely hosted in the UAE. On the other end, the second half of the 2021 season is also scheduled to be held in UAE. Kamran Akmal has also claimed that Afghanistan could be a dangerous side in such conditions. Considering the conditions in the Middle East would be dry and would aid the spinners, Akmal believes that Afghanistan could prove to be a dangerous side, with their spinners in great form.
According to sources, Sourav Ganguly has reckoned the ICC T20 World Cup is being moved to the UAE owing to COVID-19 issues in India. The country has been reporting several new cases of COVID-19 daily despite the second wave dying down significantly. The emergence of the UAE as a safe destination to conduct cricketing events was further strengthened when the PCB successfully finished the remaining season of PSL 6.
ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is the seventh edition of the tournament. West Indies are the defending champions as they conquered England by four wickets in the final of ICC T20 World Cup 2016. All the teams will announce their respective squads one month before the competition. There are four grounds in the UAE where international games can be hosted.
