Kane Williamson, the New Zealand team skipper, has opted out from the upcoming second Test against West Indies. He is preparing to be a father for the first-time. The New Zealand batting star was preparing to play in the upcoming Wellington Test. However, he has finally pulled himself out of it because of his family commitments.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead and Williamson have reached an agreement about returning home. Kane Williamson has flown back to his hometown of Tauranga to be with his pregnant wife Sarah for a midwife's appointment. Meanwhile, after the first Test in Hamilton, the rest of the New Zealand team has gone to Wellington last week.
According to reports, Williamson had agreed to participate in the Wellington at first. He also had returned to Wellington to join his side. However, he changed his decision later and returned home on Thursday.
Gary Stead conveyed his best wishes for Kane and his wife
Stead stated on Thursday afternoon about Kane’s decision to return home and be with his wife, Sarah. He further added that it is the decision, which everyone in the team supports. It is in the best interest of Williamson, Sarah, and also the team. He needs to be in a good place while he is with Sarah. Stead also said that Kane needs to be with his wife at this moment. It is not the first time a cricketer is having a baby and missing a match. He further conveyed his best wishes for Kane and Sarah.
New Zealand will suffer a big blow on missing their captain. In the first test, Kane Williamson had played a beautiful knock of 251 runs and had led his team to an innings victory. In the absence of Kane, Tom Latham will lead the team. Stead stated that Will Young will come down at number three for New Zealand during the absence of Kane.
