Monty Panesar disused Michael Vaughan’s recent comments about the rivalry between Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson. According to Panesar, Williamson is not at the same level as Virat Kohli. Williamson is a tad below the Indian Skipper. Panesar suggested that Kane Williamson can easily replace Ajinkya Rahane if he was Indian.

Michael Vaughan suggested a few weeks ago that the New Zealand skipper does not get his due. It stoked a fiery debate in the world of cricket. Vaughan suggested that Williamson and Kohli would have been on the same level if they were on the same team.

Monty Panesar on the other hand disagrees with Michael Vaughan’s assessment. He believes Williamson can take Ajinkya Rahane’s place if they were on the same team. Both Williamson and Kohli are extremely good players and Skippers. They know how to steady the team in any situation. Virat Kohli is the best chaser in the T20Is and ODIs. Kane Williamson plays equivalently well in all three formats. Panesar opined that Williamson’s level is above Rohit Sharma but a bit below Kohli. Thereby he would be an ideal replacement for Ajinkya Rahane instead of Virat Kohli.

Rahane and the New Zealand skipper are both similar players off the field. They have a calm demeanor and pure technical skills. Both the players are more comfortable in the Test format. But Kane Williamson has worked hard to be a threat in the T20 format as well.

Monty Panesar has been vocal about India’s chances of beating England in the upcoming test series

He claimed that the current Indian team can easily beat England 5-0 in the Test series. Panesar pointed out how several factors could be in India’s favor. Firstly, the weather in August-September could work in the Indian team’s favor. Secondly, India plays well when there is momentum and thirdly the Indian team’s seam options are excellent. Most importantly, England’s top-order batting is a weak point of the English team.

The five-match series against England would start from 4th August. Before that, the team would play against New Zealand in the first-ever WTC final on 18th June.
