Kapil-Dev

Former Indian captain Kapil Dev is completely against the addition of any other opening batsman in India's Test squad. India is set to play a five-match series against England. The veteran all-rounder claimed that there is no need to look beyond the pool of 20 players who are presently in the UK. Kapil Dev's remarks came after reports on Saturday surfaced that the team management is thinking of including Prithvi Shaw.

Adding other players will act as an insult to the players who are already in the squad: Kapil Dev

The Indian team management will have to find a replacement for Shubman Gill as he picked up an injury and is expected to miss the entire series. It is known that Shubman Gill has either sustained a calf muscle injury or hamstring tear. It is still not clear how and when he picked up the injury. Shubman Gill is going to stay with the team in England. Physio Nitin Patel and strength and conditioning coach Sohum Desai are going to monitor his progress.

Kapil Dev claimed that they already have players like Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul in the side. Thus, picking another opening batsman and adding him to the squad does not reflect nicely on the management's part. Kapil Dev feels this will act as an insult to the players who are already in the team. The former weighed in on the matter and stated that adding another player in the squad would not do wonders to the confidence of either KL Rahul or Mayank Agarwal.

Talking about Shubman Gill, the youngster has faced a lean patch with the bat in the most extended format of the game. He scored 28 and 8 in the WTC final. Earlier this year, the Punjab batsman has scored only one half-century in the home series against England. India is going to play five Tests against England, which will from August 4 to September 14.
