Virat Kohli will not be a part of India's white-ball tour of the West Indies later this month. The veteran cricketer taking a rest for the series has become a talking point for many. While some believe that him taking rest is necessary for him to get back to form, others believe that he should get as much game time as possible.
Former Indian captain Kapil Dev is the latest to join the conversation. The 1983 World Cup-winning captain stated that there is no harm in resting Kohli. He said that the most important thing is for him to get in form, and whatever it takes should be done.
"I can't say a big player like Virat Kohli should be dropped. He is a very big player. If you have said that he has been rested to give him respect then there's no harm in that," he told ABP News.
"The most important part is how to bring such a player back in form? He's not an ordinary cricketer. He should get more practice and play more matches to get his form back. I don't think there's any player in this world who is bigger than Kohli in T20s but when you are not doing well, the selectors can take their call. My thinking is that if anybody is not doing well then he can be rested or dropped," he further added.
Kohli will make his comeback for India at the Asia Cup, which begins in the last week of August. He'll have the Asia Cup and Australia's T20I series to make his case for a spot in the T20 World Cup team.
Meanwhile, the team's other senior members have also been rested for the series. While Jasprit Bumrah will miss the entire series, Rohit Sharma will not be a part of the three-match ODI series. Shikhar Dhawan will be the captain in Rohit's absence. India's tour of the West Indies will begin on the 22nd of July.
