India lost the fifth T20I of the series against West Indies by 8 wickets and lost the series by a margin of 2-3. After a long time, an Indian team lost a bilateral T20I series. In fact, it is the first loss of the Indian team in a five-match bilateral T20I series. One of the key factors behind the win of West Indies was the batting of Nicholas Pooran, not just in the last match, but throughout the series.

The Southpaw was named the Player of the Series for his consistent performances in the series. In the first T20I, the 27-year-old scored 41 runs in 34 balls on a difficult wicket to bat. During the second T20I in Guyana, Pooran scored a match-winning 67(40), which included 6 fours and 4 sixes. Pooran did his part and scored 20 runs in 12 balls in the third T20I at the same venue.

In the fourth T20I, the Trinidad batter could score only a run in 3 balls and was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav. In the decider in Florida, Pooran shined and won the match for the West Indies with his batting performance. Chasing 166, the aggressive batter scored 47 runs in 35 balls, which sealed the match for the home side. Pooran failed in only one match in the series.

In the decider of the series, Pooran sustained a couple of blows. The first of the two was sustained by the middle-order batter after Brandon King’s shot hit his hands with immense force.

The second blow stuck Pooran harder as he could not judge the back of a length delivery from Arshdeep Singh and got hit on his stomach region. After West Indies won the match, Pooran’s image of copping blows got viral on the internet. The fans praised the dedication and commitment of the batter.
