Royal Challengers Bangalore dynamic batsman AB de Villiers claims that he is keen to play T20 World Cup for South Africa. The Proteas batsman said that he would discuss with South Africa head coach Mark Boucher towards the end of the Indian Premier League. The speculations about ABD's return to the international wicket have been going around since 2020. The 37-year-old is eager to represent South Africa in T20 World Cup, which held in India in October-November this year.

The Proteas batsman has retired from all forms of international cricket. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman has continued to play in various T20 tournaments across the globe. Mark Boucher has disclosed that there is a chance of ABD making a comeback in the T20 format for South Africa.

Mark Boucher hints at ABD’s possible international comeback

On Friday, Mark Boucher had stated that de Villiers' is likely to make an international comeback. The former South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman had also disclosed the discussion he had with ABD ahead of the IPL 2021. In May 2018, AB de Villiers had announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. He has featured in 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is before declaring his surprise retirement after making a profound impact in all three game formats. After retiring, de Villiers tried to make a comeback for the 2019 ODI World Cup. However, he was ignored by the national selectors after the team management refused his offer. South Africa had finished seventh in the ten-team tournament with three victories in eight matches.

Since the 2019 ODI World Cup, the former wicket-keeper batsman has featured in 41 T20s. This also includes 15 half-centuries. In IPL 2020, ABD had amassed 454 runs, including five fifties, in 14 innings. Talking about the 14th IPL season, the star batsman has so far scored 206 runs in three games.

On Sunday, Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers once again made batting look too easy on a surface that was not for fluent stroke-making. Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 38 runs. Bangalore scored 56 runs in the last three overs, including 21 in the last six balls. ABD scored 34-ball 76, not out. On the other hand, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell blazed away to 78 off 49 deliveries. He smashed nine boundaries and three maximums. With this win, Royal Challengers Bangalore are leading the points table.
