Defending champions Mumbai Indians start their IPL campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday. The tournament opener will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Mumbai Indians star batsman Kieron Pollard has hit the nets for the first time ahead first IPL match. The power-hitting all-rounder has completed his 7-day mandatory quarantine on Wednesday. While there have been quite a few posts from the MI camp on social media, Pollard`s absence has raised concerns on whether the all-rounder will make a late entry into the competition.

The franchise is blessed with star players like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard and others who have been in great form in the last few months. All the mentioned players are expected to perform their best in the forthcoming IPL season. The Mumbai-based IPL team will play their first five matches in Chennai before travelling to Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru for their league stage matches.

Kieron Pollard IPL stats

Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians clinched their fifth IPL title last year in the UAE. The side will now be looking to do the same in the 14th edition, starting on Friday, to complete a hat trick of wins. Rohit Sharma will once again captain a well-set side that is all-embracing ahead of the new IPL season. Last year they already accomplished what they were looking for, to win the IPL in an even year. Thus, they would now be aiming for another milestone as they look to make it a hat-trick of IPL titles this year.

Talking about Keiron Pollard, he is one of the very few players in the Indian Premier League who has been with the same franchise for more than a decade. The all-rounder came into the spotlight after his exploits in the now-defunct Champions League in 2009. Pollard first featured in the Mumbai Indians team in 2010 and since then has been a permanent fixture in the franchise. Having played 164 games in the cash-rich league, Pollard has accumulated 3023 runs at a great strike rate of 149.87. He also has 60 scalps to his name in the T20 tournament.
