Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard's unbeaten 87 off 34 balls helped the side defeat Chennai Super Kings by four wickets. Despite the loss, MS Dhoni and the team have maintained their position at the top of the points table. Mumbai Indians are also placed at number four, with the franchise getting to eight points from seven matches now. Set to chase a massive score of 219, Kieron Pollard scored his first half-century of the season. His brilliant knock helped Mumbai Indians win their fourth match of the 14th IPL season. His finishing abilities came on the back of a good opening partnership by captain Rohit Sharma and Quinton De Kock. The opening duo had put up a crucial partnership of 71 for the first wicket inside eight overs. After their departure, Mumbai Indians then lost three quick wickets. But with Pollard at the other end, the intent to win the match was always there.
Earlier in the match, the CSK batsmen themselves slammed 16 sixes to get to a score of 218/3. Faf Du Plessis (50) and Moeen Ali (58) added a partnership of 108 runs in the middle phase of the innings. Ambati Rayudu's cameo of 27 run ball 72 got them to the score, which looked enough for the Yellow Army to win their sixth match of the season.
Bumrah bowls the most expensive spell of his IPL career against arch-rival CSK
For MI, Jasprit Bumrah bowled his most expensive spell in IPL as he went for 56 off his four overs quota. Trent Boult went for 42 runs, whereas Dhawal Kulkarni went for 48. Spinner Rahul Chahar gave away 32 off his spell but remained wicketless. On a calm Delhi wicket, bowlers from both CSK and MI gave away many runs, but Pollard's knock was a bit too much for the CSK bowlers to resist. During MI's bowling, Pollard had bowled two overs and scalped two crucial wickets while giving away just 12 runs. During the chase, Pollard kept the defending champions in the competition. He smashed eight maximums and six boundaries and ultimately won the game for Mumbai Indians on the match's last ball. Both teams have two more matches left in Delhi before they move ahead in the tournament. Out of the 56 league games, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata & Bengaluru is going to host ten matches each, whereas Ahmedabad and Delhi will host 8 matches each.
