Wriddhiman Saha, the opening batsman for the Gujarat Titans, scored a half-century against the Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In raging form, the 38-year-old destroyed the pacers for the Lucknow Super Giants in the PowerPlay. Saha hit his fifty-run mark in the sixth over with a six-over long-off off Yash Thakur. At the moment, non-striker Shubman Gill had only 15.

Saha now holds the third-fastest fifty in 20 balls in the IPL 2023. Jos Buttler, Shardul Thakur, and Shivam Dube have all hit fifty strikes off the same number of balls in the IPL this season. With his half-century coming off just 15 balls, Nicholas Pooran holds the record for this season's quickest half-century. The player behind him is Ajinkya Rahane, who reached a fifty against Kolkata Knight Riders in just 19 balls.

Interestingly, Virat Kohli, enjoying the game on TV, took to Instagram and shared a story appreciating Wriddhiman Saha's knock. Naturally, the story has done rounds on social media, with fans reacting plentifully to the same.

Gujarat Titans scored 78 runs in the powerplay

Saha made his intentions clear from the opening over by smashing left-arm bowler Mohsin Khan for back-to-back fours. He attacked Avesh Khan the following over, hitting him for successive balls for a six and a four. When captain Krunal Pandya entered the brawl, Saha didn't back down. He fled from the outside leg and moved inside out over the covers to find the fence.

Saha, who batted aggressively with Shubman Gill in the opening position, completed his season's maiden half-century in just 20 balls by hitting Yash Thakur for a massive six. In a crucial home game, his rapid 50 helped GT get off to a great start by scoring 78 runs while on the power play. Saha's performance of 54 runs off 23 balls tied Kyle Mayers of LSG and Punjab Kings for the greatest individual score in the powerplay.

In the end, Avesh Khan bowled Wriddhiman Saha out for 81 runs off 43 balls on the first delivery of the 13th over. He hit four maximums and 10 boundaries during his innings. Together with Shubman Gill, he scored 142 runs in the first wicket partnership.
