Former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar feels that KKR should try a new opening pair. KKR should try West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine on top of the batting order once again. The former Indian skipper believes that Sunil Narine can be destructive with the willow inside the powerplay. He further added that Narine should open the batting for KKR alongside Rahul Tripathi. Tripathi has played as an opening batsman for other franchises in the past as well.
Kolkata Knight Riders have recorded their second victory of the season against the Punjab Kings on Monday. However, Kolkata suffered early dismissals, with Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana scoring 9 and 0, respectively. Talking about the young opening batsman Shubman Gill, he has been out of form this season. He has just scored 89 runs in six IPL games so far. Due to Gill’s poor performance, Sunil Gavaskar said that KKR should change its opening combination.
Kolkata defeated Punjab to register their 2nd win of IPL 2021
Kolkata Knight Riders sealed a comfortable victory over KL Rahul-led Punjab Kings. The change in the ground brought new fortunes for Eoin Morgan and his team. Kolkata Knight Riders won the game by 5 wickets and 20 balls to spare. After winning the toss in Ahmedabad, Eoin Morgan opted to bowl first. He asked KL Rahul and his team to take the crease first. Punjab Kings lost early wickets in the form of KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, and Deepak Hooda. PKBS top three batsmen were bamboozled by KKR bowlers in three successive overs. Mayank Agarwal looked in great touch, but he was then dismissed by Sunil Narine for 31 off 34 balls.
For KKR, Rahul Tripathi and skipper Eoin Morgan formed a critical partnership to take the team close to the finish line. Tripathi smashed 41 off 32 balls before getting dismissed by Hooda in the 11th over. Eoin Morgan took it upon himself and finished the match. The captain remained unbeaten at 40-ball 47. With this win, Eoin Morgan-led KKR is now at the fifth spot in the IPL points table with 4 points from 6 games. Kolkata Knight Riders will next play against Delhi Capitals on Monday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. On the other end, Punjab Kings will lock horns against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 29th April.
