On Tuesday, Delhi Capitals lost to Kings XI Punjab by five wickets. This win has helped KXIP to keep their slim chances alive for the playoff. It's their fourth win in ten games and third in a row at IPL 2020. KL Rahul’s side moved to the fifth position in the IPL points table.

Chasing the target of 165, KXIP crossed the end goal with one over still in hand. DC dismissed KL Rahul easily before Chris Gayle scored 29 off only 13 balls to establish the pace for the chase. Nonetheless, Delhi tore their way back in the game by dismissing Gayle and Mayank Agarwal one by one. At one time, KXIP was reeling over a score of 56 for 3 from 52 for 1.

Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell then steadied the ship and shared a stand of 69-run. Kagiso Rabada broke the partnership when he sent Pooran back to the pavilion. Pooran had scored 53 from 28 deliveries, before his departure. Maxwell returned to the pavilion soon after scoring 32 before Deepak Hooda, and Jimmy Neesham ended the game off.

During the innings of Delhi Capitals, the unbeaten century of Shikhar Dhawan helped the team to put a decent score on the scoreboard. While the opening batsman smashed an unbeaten 106, he had almost no help from his teammates. Prithvi Shaw continued his poor run of form as he scored just 7 from 11 deliveries. Rishabh Pant, who was getting back from injury, scored 14 runs from 20 balls. More players of DC, like Marcus Stoinis and Shreyas Iyer, failed to deliver.

For KXIP, Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers, giving only 28 runs off his four overs and taking the wickets of Stoinis and Shimron Hetmyer.

KL Rahul states the last game reminds the team to stay humble

Chatting after the game, KXIP captain KL Rahul talked about his delight over the success and praised his teammates. He also refused to get diverted with the recent successes and clarified that KXIP needs to remain humble.

“Especially when you play with 6 batters and one all-rounder, one of the top four had to do the job. One thing that we need to look at. Shami was coming in after some confidence from the last game. Arshdeep bowled two overs in the powerplay and one over at the death. And he nailed 6 yorkers. Glenn has been batting well in the nets. He is a great team man and we know the balance he brings to the table,” said KL Rahul.

“The talk before the last couple of games was to beat two teams were at the top of the points table. I couldn’t sleep after the last game. We could have finished it before and not allowed it to go into the super over. The game reminds us to stay humble. We would want to take the momentum forward and take it one game at a time,” he added.
