Former Indian cricketer turned head coach Ravi Shastri finally broke his silence on the ongoing debate on the captaincy episode. The ex-Indian head coach had a great relationship with Kohli. In an interview, Shastri said Virat could have easily gone with 50-60 wins as India's Test captain in the next two years.

India achieved great heights under the captaincy of Kohli. Some of the major achievements together are winning win a test series in Australia. They also led India to a 2-1 lead in the Test series in England. India also made it to the finals of the first-ever Test Championship in 2021 under the duo. Within a few months of Shastri's tenure coming to an end, Virat no longer is the captain of the Indian side in any format.

In an interview with Sports Today during the Legends League Cricket, Shastri said, “Virat Kohli could have led India for at least 2 more years in Tests with lots of matches at home and he could have ended with 50 or 60 Test wins but many people could not have digested that fact, now we should respect his decision."

Ravi Shastri is the commissioner of the Legends League Cricket, a tournament for retired players across the globe.
Shastri said Rohit Sharma should lead the Indian side in the longest format since he was named the Vice Captain for the South African tour. Rohit Sharma was unable to travel to South Africa because of a hamstring injury.

Sharma can return as the white-ball captain in the upcoming series at home against West Indies. KL Rahul will be his deputy in the series. The Test captaincy spot is still up for grabs.
