The Men in Blue are currently busy playing the ongoing three-match ODI series in Bangladesh. After the 20-20 World Cup, team India visited New Zealand for playing an ODI and T20I series. But, senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli took a rest from that tour. However, after missing the World Cup, Shreyas Iyer got a chance on the New Zealand tour.
He also looked good with the bat in the ODI series. In the T20I series, he scored 13 runs in two matches. But, in the ODI series, Iyer scored 129 runs in two innings. So, fans were hoping for a better show once again from this batter in this series. In the series opener, team India lost the match by one wicket to Bangladesh.
Shreyas Iyer scored 82 runs off 102 balls in the second ODI
Apart from KL Rahul, all batters failed miserably as India got bundled out for just 186 runs. Iyer also had a start but failed to convert that into a big score. Shreyas Iyer scored only 24 runs off 39 balls, including two fours. So, all eyes were on him once again when India took on the home side for the second match of the series on 7 December 2022.
Speaking of the match, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. While batting first, they scored 271 runs for seven wickets in 50 overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 100* runs off 83 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. Then, in reply, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan came out to open the innings. During this clash, Rohit Sharma got injured and hence, he did not come out to bat. But, India were in trouble when India lost two wickets for 13 runs. Then, Shreyas Iyer came and scored 82 runs off 102 balls, including six fours and three sixes. His partnership with Axar Patel settled the ship for team India while chasing 272 runs.
