KL Rahul's misery in the red-ball game continued as the recently married India batter got out cheaply in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series in Delhi. Rahul scored just one run in two balls, only to get out in the third after edging Nathan Lyon's delivery for a sharp catch by wicketkeeper Alex Carry. Notably, he fell leg before to the same bowler in the first innings for another low score of 17 off 41.

This has been a continued problem for the Bengaluru boy in Tests. His performance in the first Test of the BGT was similar. He scored 20 off 71 with just one boundary in his knock before being caught and bowled by debutant leg-spinner Todd Murphy. The last time he scored a fifty in Tests was back in January 2022 against South Africa at the Centurion.

KL Rahul has the highest score of 23 in his last seven Test innings

The 2022 series against the Proteas was his last notable Test performance. Since then, he has played Tests against Bangladesh and Australia, registering the highest score of 23 in seven innings. In the limited-overs game, however, Rahul has been better, judging from his handy knocks of 64* and 39 against Sri Lanka in the recent home series.

Reacting to KL Rahul's miserable Test run, former India speedster Venkatesh Prasad has been dropping criticism after Test 2 of the BGT. His tweets also attracted the attention of commentator Aakash Chopra. However, Prasad backed up his recent tweets with records and stats.

He wrote, 'there is a view that KL Rahul has an outstanding overseas Test record. But stats speak otherwise. He has a test avg of 30 overseas in 56 innings. He has scored 6 overseas centuries but followed it up with a string of low scores; that's why averaging 30.' Prasad does have a strong case to make. The fans also have been frustrated with the batter's miserable run of form, especially when excellent replacements like Shubman Gill are warming the bench.
