Former India batter Wasim Jaffer picked his Indian squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 set to commence in October. Some of his choices took many cricket fans by surprise. Interestingly, Jaffer picked the veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan in the World Cup squad, who is not favoured lately by the team India selectors.
This squad picked by Jaffer drew a lot of reactions on social media as fans took to Twitter to respond with a variety of opinions. Some of the fans were also shocked by the unexpected inclusion of Dhawan with Suryakumar Yadav’s omission from the squad by Jaffer.

Dhawan? I don’t think he will get selected. I’d rather select Jaiswal as a back-up opener if you want a left handed opener in the squad in case of an unforeseen injury to Rohit or Gill.

Notably, India are currently in the Caribbean where they recently won the two-match Test series by 1-0 against the hosts West Indies. Now, the Men in Blue will begin their preparations for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies, with the ODI World Cup in mind. Rohit Sharma’s men will lock horns with Shai Hope & co. in the three-match ODI series, starting with the first ODI on July 27, Thursday.
Coming back to the World Cup squad of India picked by Jaffer, it will mostly depend on the performances of the players in the upcoming white-ball assignment. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar is also present in West Indies to discuss the future plans with coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit.
Following the conclusion of the white-ball assignment against West Indies, Team India’s campaign will move further to the Asia Cup 2023. They will start their campaign in the continental tournament with their tournament opener against the arch-rivals Pakistan in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
