The Gujarat team made history after winning their maiden title in their debut season on May 29 by beating Rajasthan. The victory can be termed sweeter from the team’s perspective as they weren’t the title contenders ahead of the season. They were called the team which is good only at bowling but weak at batting which could bite them. However, they won 10 games in the league phase to finish first in the points table.

Players such as David Miller, Wriddhiman Saha, Abhinav Manohar, Rahul Tewatia, skipper Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, Lockie Ferguson, etc rose to the occasion. The team qualified for Qualifier 1 and had two chances to reach the final. In hindsight, they needed only one opportunity to storm onto the final beating the Pink Brigade. In the final, they played the same opponents and smashed them by seven wickets at their home ground.

After the game, Hardik’s elder brother Krunal shared a video of the Gujarat franchise and tagged his brother saying ‘Proud of You’.

Krunal played for Lucknow and this was the first time when both brothers played for a different teams. From 2016 to 2021, the duo played for Mumbai and contributed to a lot of wins for the team. Talking about the elder’s brother’s story, a video of Hardik speaking about his captaincy and his team was shared. The franchise had uploaded the video on Instagram ahead of the final.

The younger impressed everyone with his captaincy during the tournament. Apart from one incident with Shami, where he shouted at the pacer, the all-rounder has been calm and collected in the entire season. Former cricketer Rajat Bhatia after the game had said that Pandya’s calm demeanor was lacking in former Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli.

The five-time Indian T20 League winner promoted himself up the order in the batting and scored 487 runs in 15 games this season. Another positive from his game was his ability to bowl which has been missing in the last few years.
