Colombo Strikers displayed a brilliant performance as they defeated Galle Titans by 7 wickets in the 10th match of the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 against Galle Titans which was played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on Monday, August 7.

Meanwhile, the fan-favourite Babar Azam produced a brilliant knock and entertained the fans as he hit a magnificent century and help his team to chase a big target. He smashed 104 runs which came off just 59 deliveries, during this he hit 8 fours and 5 sixes. He talked about his team’s victory after the match and said that they tried to manage the run rates.

“We started off well, Later we tried to manage the run rates. I thought 190-200 was a good score. At the back of my mind, was trying to build my partnerships.” Babar said in the post-match presentation.

Speaking of the match, asked to bat first, Galle displayed a brilliant performance and amassed a total of 188 runs in the first innings. Tim Seifert was the highest run-scorer for Galle as he discord 54 runs off just 35 balls which included 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Chasing the target, Colombo started brilliantly as their openers Babar and Pathum Nissanka gave a cracking start to the team and stitched a monumental 111-run opening stand. However, despite the brilliant start given by the openers, Colombo lost control in the final stage of the match but Mohammad Nawaz took the game away from Galle as he smashed 14 runs in the last over with 1 ball to spare. Colombo’s skipper Niroshan Dickwella talked about the match in the post-match presentation.

“It was so so close in the previous games. Toss wasn't in our hands. We didn't start well. There is a split on my webbing. As a team or a group, we were confident. These things happen. Shamsi is a world-class bowler. We knew we had wickets in hand. Overall we have more room to improve.” he said after the game.
