Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar opines that Kuldeep Yadav should be included in the squad for the second Test against England. After India's 227-run defeat, several critics and fans have questioned Kuldeep's absence from the XI. The southpaw was out in the team for left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem, who picked up four wickets across the two innings and struggled with his regular no-balls.
Gavaskar went on to say that Yadav could come in as a replacement of either Shahbaz Nadeem or Washington Sundar. However, Gavaskar stated that adding Yadav in place of Sundar could be a matter of concern, as he deserves a place in the team for his all-around abilities. Yadav hasn't featured in a Test match for over two years. And the fact that he was not playing the opening Test at the Chepauk raised a lot of eyebrows. Gavaskar perceives that India’s spin-bowling unit needs to bring in variety. And to play both Ravi Ashwin and Washington Sundar could not be enough.
Youngsters have again proved their worth: Sunil Gavaskar
The Indian cricket team lost the opening Test against England by a considerable margin after succumbing to a paltry 192 in their 420-run target in the second innings. No other Indian batsman stepped up apart from opener Shubman Gill and captain Virat Kohli. The duo notched up half-centuries apiece, but their efforts were not enough to save the Test match for India.
India may have lost the first match by a huge margin, but the youngsters have again proved their worth with their sheer brilliance. Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Washington Sundar continued their excellent form, ensuring the possibility of a strong comeback.
Gavaskar believes the hosts might go for some changes in the second Test. The next clash between both teams is going to take place at the same venue starting Saturday.
