Gautam Gambhir questioned Kuldeep Yadav's exclusion from India's playing XI for the first Test against England. Gambhir was shocked about Yadav's omission as he is a wrist spinner and it would be a great advantage for India.

India picked up Ravichandran Ashwin, Washington Sundar, and Shahbaz Nadeem in the first game.

Root and Sibley fight back as India go wicketless at Tea

England captain Joe Root won the toss and decided to bat first. The visitors had a decent start as openers Rory Burns and Dominic Sibley survived more than one and a half hours at the crease. However, it was off-spinner Ravi Ashwin who gave India's first breakthrough dismissing Rory Burns. The visitors lost their second batsman after Jasprit Bumrah came into the attack and picked up Daniel Lawrence's wicket.

England batsman Dom Sibley and captain Joe Root took the team to a stable position after losing two quick wickets. At Tea, the England side was at 140/2 in 57 overs. Featuring in his 100th Test match, Root is unbeaten on 84 runs while opener Sibley is not out on 65. In the second session, England didn't lose any wicket and added 73 runs. Meanwhile, Dom Sibley scored his fourth Test fifty. In the 150-run partnership, both Sibley and Root played carefully and waited for the wrong deliveries to score runs. Indian bowlers Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shahbaz Nadeem, failed to find momentum as they bowled three no-balls each while going for dismissals.
