Sri Lanka opener Kusal Perera is likely to miss the upcoming series against India due to a shoulder injury. The southpaw picked up the injury on England tour but continued playing as there was no apt replacement available. However, upon returning from England, Perera felt discomfort in his shoulder which barred him from training with the Sri Lanka team.

As per a report in ft. lk, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) medical staff is keeping a keen eye on Perera’s recovery and will soon take a decision on him. If Perera is ruled out of the series, it will be a massive setback to the Sri Lanka team. Perera is one of the most experienced Sri Lanka players with 107 ODI and 50 T20I caps. The southpaw is the spine of this inexperienced Sri Lanka batting. When in full flow, he is a match-winner on his own. If ruled against India, it will surely be a massive advantage to the Men in Blue.

Sri Lanka already have banned three of their experienced players - Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, and Danushka Gunathilaka for not following the COVID-19 protocols during the England series. Perera’s absence will make the squad look weaker.
