Team India ended the first day of the second Test against the West Indies in Port of Spain on a high note. The duo of Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja ensured no hiccups as they guided India to a wicketless session in the final session of the day. It was a strange decision by West Indies to bowl first after winning the toss on a good batting wicket.

India's opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal went berserk at the top. In Dominica, the run rate of India was questioned, big time. But in Port of Spain, the opening duo put an end to the criticism of run rate by batting briskly. The opening partnership lasted for 31.4 overs and the two batters put up 139 runs for the first wicket at a rate of 4.4.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was impressive yet again with his play. The 21-year-old played some exquisite shots and cut the ball well. In 74 deliveries, Southpaw scored 57 runs and scored the second fifty of his career. At the other end, Rohit Sharma looked at his usual best, tormenting the bowlers for fun. Sharma scored 80 runs in 143 deliveries.

Kohli and Jadeja rescue India after a collapse

The wicket of Jaiswal started a mini collapse for India. Shubman Gill had yet another failure to his name. The vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane struggled in the middle. Sharma was dismissed by Jomel Warrican. With a lack of intent, Rahane gave away his wicket. From 139/0 after 31.3 overs, India lost 4 wickets for just 43 runs. The score was 182/4 when Jadeja joined Kohli.

Kohli looked very good in the middle. The great batter who is playing his 500th international match, scored runs at a good rate. Kohli drove the ball with class and played some good shots throughout the innings. At the other end, Jadeja played a perfect second fiddle to the experienced batter with his style. The two were involved in a hundred partnership before the stumps were declared on Day One. For West Indies, Kemar Roach, Shannon Gabriel, Jomel Warrican, and Jason Holder claimed a wicket.
