Team India are off to a flying start in the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Sunday, September 17. Both the teams wanted to bat first but Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka was 'lucky' to win the toss. However, Rohit Sharma was confident and mentioned that "this is a good chance to go aggressive with the ball". Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah took their captain's words to heart and gave them a dream start.

It took just three balls for Bumrah to make an impact in the game. He drew first blood by dismissing Kusal Perera for a duck and opened the floodgates of wickets. In the second over, Siraj gave the Lankan batters a hint of what was to come next, with a maiden over. No one was prepared for Siraj's onslaught in the fourth over, in which he took four wickets and single-handedly destroyed the opposition batting unit.

His first victim was Pathum Nissanka, who was caught by Ravindra Jadeja on the first ball. In the third ball, Siraj trapped Sadeera Samarawickrama in front of the stumps, and in the following delivery, he got rid of Charith Asalanka. Dhananjaya de Silva survived the hat-trick ball with a boundary, but the right-arm pacer got revenge on the last ball by sending him packing. The former No. 1 ODI bowler put the home team reeling at 12 for five in four overs.

The 29-year-old continued his fine spell and registered his maiden ODI fifer with 15 balls by picking up the wicket of captain Dasun Shanaka in his third over. Siraj was not done with it. He went on to take another wicket of Kusal Mendis to register a six-wicket haul.

India's pace spearhead completed 50 wickets in ODI cricket with his third wicket of Asalanka. Siraj, currently the ninth-ranked ODI bowler, became the first Indian to take four wickets in a single over and equalled the fastest five-wicket haul in ODIs.
